Dammar varnish is a solution of resin (dammar) in turpentine. It is used in painting as a covering varnish for oil paints.
It is applied to the painting after it has dried. It protects the painting from moisture and dust, gives a noble shine to the painting. The colors become richer, brighter, the work acquires depth. It is a traditional glossy varnish for paintings on canvas. Due to its natural features, dammar resin can yellow over time, so it is not recommended for covering works made in cold colors. The varnish creates an elastic film after drying, which protects the colors in case of canvas sagging from external conditions.
Dammar varnish is produced from natural materials, therefore, during storage, precipitation is possible. It is necessary to shake the bottle before use.
Traditionally has an odor, so it is recommended to work in a well-ventilated room.
